Medieval Life in France - Grade Six
Objective: Grade 6- Students will compare and contrast Medieval Life of France with life today. They will problem solve ways their ancient ancestors, the Franks, could have extended their life expectancy. They will focus on sanitation, diet and conflict resolution.
Performance Task: Your ancient ancestors, the Franks, need your assistance in helping them identify ways they can extend their life expectancy. What suggestions can you provide them about sanitation, diet and conflict resolution?
Standards
R 6.1. Cite textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.
W6.1 Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence.

Arrangements for classroom visits by the Nurse, Police Officer, School Counselor, Dietitian
Procedures:
1) Have students make inferences on “Why do we live longer than our ancestors?”
2) Have students read about the Middle Ages and Health Trends Today while completing the graphic organizer
3) Have students create a Venn diagram about the Middle Ages vs Today
4) Have a nurse visit the classroom to speak about effective hygiene
5) Have a police officer or school counselor visit the classroom to speak about conflict resolution.
6) Have a Dietitian visit the classroom to speak about healthy eating habits.
7) Have students problem solve how they could have given their ancestors advice to extend their life.
8) Have students read and analyze the example of persuasive writing.
9) Have students review the rubric for writing a persuasive argument
10) Have them complete the writing graphic organizer
11) Have students write a persuasive essay on how to extend life expectancy in the world today.
