My Cultural Heritage: The French Connection
A scaffolding curriculum that will reach across all grade levels from 3-8, include all teachers in our school, district and community members. The curriculum developed by this experience can make an impact at a local, regional, and national level. The lessons created at each grade level will be taught using a co-teaching model. It will be a model for curriculum development which includes teachers, interns, and community members. Activities and lessons will be differentiated to meet the needs of individual students to ensure full student and teacher engagement. Along with curriculum development, using an understanding by design model, I plan to create a blog and web page to provide resources for teachers in our school and community. Students will follow me as I travel through France and complete assignments related to French History and Culture. Teachers will have access to resources they can use in their classroom when teaching about any cultural group. The developed curriculum will be aligned with common core standards, state standards and promote student engagement through performance tasks. Students will create a digital portfolio which will show case their work from grades 3-8. It will include records of their learning experiences in each grade. I plan to extend the curriculum to include the K-2 students and Unified Arts teachers. I will work with these teachers to develop lessons on French-Canadian foods, recreational activities, art, and music.
